Potion Project with Herbert Morrison Primary School, 2003

This is a four-day course, introducing pupils to opera and music-theatre. Children will learn about the production and performance of opera, the key roles and techniques involved in bringing work to the stage. The course will culminate in the children performing a short piece of music-theatre. The children will be invited to watch a professional production by Pegasus Opera, if the Company are touring at the time.

Aims of the project:

  1. To investigate the main themes of the opera, using exercises relevant to the pupils' curriculum.
  2. To enable students to work with professional singers, a director and repetiteur for rehearsals, discussing work and directing each other.
  3. To develop skills in criticising and evaluating creative work
  4. To create a forum for questioning the professionals on all aspects of their work
